CYBER SEMINAR FOR PARENTS, 2019
In January, WSPC hosted a Cyber Seminar for Parents with guest Scott Driscoll from Internet Safety Concepts. Scott has visited the students in our Wethersfield schools and we have hosted him before for parents. We welcomed him back because his information is always timely and he remains on top of what our children are doing on their smart phones. This event was well attended and parents left with great information instead of fear and confusion. Thank you Scott! Visit www.internetsafetyconcepts.com for more important information.
bike/Walk to school day Highlights-spring 2018
On May 9th, the Wethersfield Elementary Schools participated in National “Walk/Bike to School Day”. All the schools had a huge turnout, with many enjoying the beautiful New England weather! Besides using the trip to school as a chance for children (and adults!) to get the physical activity they need, it’s also fun, boosts the sense of community, and helps to alleviate traffic around schools.
Wethersfield Schools Parent Council also uses “Bike/Walk to School Days” as an opportunity to honor Wethersfield’s school crossing guards. These men and women provide an invaluable service to the community by helping Wethersfield children get to school safely every day. In addition to each crossing guard receiving a gift in the Spring, students make a special effort to thank crossing guards on their way back and forth to school so they know that their service does not go unnoticed.
Overall the day was a great succcess. Organizers hope “Bike/Walk to School Days” inspire students and their families to make walking and biking to school a regular part of their routine.

Our sponsored events
These are some of the events sponsored by WSPC over the last few years. We continue to listen to concerns and ideas from parents through each of the representatives at all seven schools.
Annual volunteer recognition awards ceremony
WSPC Volunteer Recognition Awards is held annual in May of each school year in the Webb or Silas Dean Middle School auditorium. Awards are given to a one person in each of the seven schools in town, which are chosen respectively by their PTOs. There is a group award given out also and is chosen by the WSPC committee members. Showing outstanding volunteerism in education and supporting our students, and the community are the things that stand out the most in choosing the winners.
Complete the form and submit it to your PTO President(s) or your WSPC school representative by the deadline, which is typically the last week in March. At the respective PTO meetings in April, the PTO Executive Board will present the nominations to the members and vote on a candidate. A winner will be chosen from that meeting to receive the WSPC Annual Volunteer Recognition Award. For the 2017-18 school year, the event date was May 16, 2018. For the first time in 2014, the event was held in the evening to accommodate recipients, family, and friends to make this special ceremony. 2017-2018 WSPC Award Recipients
